On Friday, 30th May, a team from the University of Florence together with Ayuntamiento Mataró visited Rocafonda Nursery School in Mataró, one of the six pilot sites of the RE-ACT Schools project.
Located in a dense urban neighborhood, Rocafonda faces several challenges, including limited green and shaded areas, exposure to heat, and dry soil conditions.
During the visit, project partners met with the school staff, explored the existing yard, and discussed local needs, current challenges, and opportunities for transformation.
The redesign of the schoolyard aims to:
- Increase vegetation and natural shading
Improve rainwater management - Enhance soil quality
- Create spaces that support physical activity, exploration, and wellbeing
- Reduce the effects of urban heat
Stay tuned as we follow Rocafonda’s journey toward becoming a greener, cooler, and healthier space for the youngest generation!
