What we do
The RE-ACT Schools project focuses on regenerating existing schoolyards, targeting specific climatic issues (e.g., heat island effect, sustainable water management, biodiversity, air pollution, health and wellbeing) related to 6 different territorial contexts and geographical situations
Our goal: to tackle challenges in real school environments

-
-
Escalating climate change impacts (heavy rainfall, flooding, extreme temperatures, droughts, and urban heat island effect) that affect the urban environment and citizen health, designing more resilient and beautiful schoolyards
-
Vulnerability of schoolyards to climate change effects, integrating restorative materials, and technologies to renovate the outdoor spaces
-
Health Risks for children and vulnerable users caused by the rising temperatures and heat stress, improving the outdoor comfort condition
-
Loss and degradation of Biodiversity, increasing the green surfaces and the NbS solutions
- Lack of shared Methodologies and Tools for addressing climate resilience in schoolyards, particularly across different Mediterranean contexts, developing a new design toolkit that can be used for the public authorities to manage public spaces
