🏙️🌡️ Revisiting the 2nd ITW | Health and Well-being in the Face of Urban Heat – Mònica Ubalde 🎤

16/04/2026

Within the framework of the RE-ACT Schools Project – “Transformation of Schoolyards to Combat Climate Change Effects and Promote Healthy and Active Environments”, Mònica Ubalde delivered a presentation focused on the relationship between urban heat and public health.

📅 Her intervention took place on 20 November 2025 in Mataró, as part of the thematic workshop on Urban Heat Island Mitigation Strategies. She explored how heat waves increasingly affect cities and highlighted their direct impact on health, particularly on children.

💡 The presentation combined scientific evidence with real-life experiences from schools, showing how urban transformations and the renaturalisation of educational spaces can help reduce heat-related risks and improve well-being.

📍 This contribution reinforced the importance of integrating health perspectives into climate-adaptive schoolyard design, providing valuable insights for future pilot actions within the project. 🌍💚
