RE-ACT Schools project (https://re-actschools.interreg-euro-med.eu/), represented by the Sustainable Built Environment (SBE) research group, EEWRC of the Cyprus Institute (CyI) participated at the sCYence Fair 2026 https://scyence.cyi.ac.cy/en/, on the 30th of April 2026 at The Cyprus Institute Athalassa Campus in Aglantzia, Nicosia.
As part of the SBE’s activity “Re-designing our built environment”, students were invited to think creatively about how our schoolyards can become greener, cooler, and more people-friendly. Our schoolyards are often dominated by grey, hard materials that make everyday living more difficult due to climate effects such as heat stress.
Through a hands-on activity using real photos and digital models of the Agios Andreas Primary school in Nicosia, students will have the opportunity to redesign these spaces, propose improvements, and share their vision for better cities. The goal is not only to introduce practical ideas, such as greenery and shading, but also to empower students to envision and express the kind of urban environment they would like to live in.
The experience provided an inspiring discussion, creativity, and fresh perspectives on the future of our built environment.
